Roundhill Tunnel
Roundhill Tunnel is located on the A20 in the Folkestone, Kent, providing vital connectivity to and from the Port of Dover. Opened in 1993 after three years of construction, Roundhill Tunnel forms part of a route that has an estimated 4.7million cars travelling through it every year.
Due to more stringent UK Highways Standards, Roundhill Tunnel needed to modernise the technology within.
Our Ventilation solution delivers increased airflow whilst using the same number of fans and existing power supply, significantly enhancing performance without requiring additional infrastructure.
To support long-term maintenance, we implemented a bespoke anchoring system that allows jet fans to be easily lifted and lowered for servicing. The system was also upgraded to include an emergency control mode, enabling the fans to operate continuously in the event of a fire, overriding fault conditions that would normally lead to the fans being taken out of service. In this mode the jet fans will run to destruction in order to preserve life.
Roundhill Tunnel can operate knowing the safety of those passing through is safeguarded by the system upgrades.
