Our integrated Overheight Vehicle Detection (OHVD) system prevents bridge and tunnel strikes using height detectors, ANPR, and VMS. Outstations and instations coordinate alerts, diverting over-height vehicles. A user-friendly interface provides real-time system status and manual override capabilities.
LIDAR or through-beam sensors ensure accurate over-height vehicle identification
Open interfaces enable smooth connection to existing Traffic Management Systems.
The Dunkettle Interchange sits in the east of the city of Cork, connecting the M8, N25 and N40. To overcome long running issues with congestion, Transport Infrastructure Ireland contracted SISK to upgrade the junction.
Due to the height restrictions approaching the Interchange and Jack Lynch Tunnel, concerns arose around over height vehicles disrupting the flow of traffic.
We installed seven OHVD outstations, providing local detection of any Over Height Vehicles. The number plate of the detected vehicle is displayed on the associated VMS sign. The through-beam sensors can detect in poor weather conditions, reducing false alarms and increase reliability.
Our system has improved traffic flow whilst also reducing the possibility of an over height vehicles entering the tunnel which would cause a significant amount of damage to the tunnel infrastructure.
